Request to Fans of SECRET RADIO
I have the opportunity to put SECRET RADIO into print in a three-volume set. They could be out by October first (in time for Christmas). Each volume would cost about 12 or 13 dollars and would be over 50,000 words long, so the cost would be about the same (or cheaper) as any book of similar length sold through a Christian book store. (Secret Radio is not a short novel!) But while the cost is comparable, readers would have to pay standard shipping charges, just as you would have to do with any online book store.

A couple people have told me they would like to have printed editions of SECRET RADIO. Before I put the time and money into creating the templates for a subsidy printing, I'd like to measure reader interest. And no, I am not planning to take down the SECRET RADIO blog, even if I sell printed volumes. In fact, I would sell them through the SECRET RADIO blog.

If you think adding a volume (or three) of SECRET RADIO to your Christmas list is likely, please drop me a line at my SECRET RADIO address: graceblog@earthlink.net Let me know what you think!

THIS JUST IN: Daleks back to fight Doctor Who

From the BBC: The evil reputation of the Daleks has endured. Doctor Who's arch enemies the Daleks are coming back to the series after a lengthy dispute between the BBC and the creator's estate was finally settled.
The estate of sci-fi writer Terry Nation had originally blocked their return to the classic BBC One show.

But the BBC said an agreement had been reached ensuring that the Daleks - voted the most evil Doctor Who villains of all time - would be back.

Doctor Who returns to TV in 2005 with Christopher Eccleston in the lead role.

"I am absolutely delighted that the Terry Nation estate and the BBC have been able to reach agreement on terms for the use of the Daleks in the new Doctor Who series," said Tim Hancock, agent for the Terry Nation estate.

"We look forward to working closely with the production team in the forthcoming months." Click here for the full story

A More Mellow Yoga

Following the chiropractor's advice regarding my knee pain, I stayed out of yoga class last Thursday night, and last night (Monday), I followed a routine of holding certain postures for just a ten count and then resting for a five count, and then holding them again, etc. I used the abbreviated system only for those postures that stress the right leg: one-legged balancing poses and the Warrior I and Warrior II poses with the right leg forward.

Our current teacher is subbing for the regular teacher, and she was pretty careful to keep the right leg aligned for me on the bridge pose and any other pose where that right knee of mine starts to flare out. I was grateful for her concern.

But getting old definitely stinks. By the end of class I was a little down and felt a little guilty. For 20 years, taekwon do taught me (even beat it into me) that I must go harder to break through mental barriers.

I have to admit, not going all out feels almost shameful, like I'm cheating somebody or defrauding the teacher. I was a little embarrassed at the end of class: not only can I not do one single pose correctly, now I hang back at times.

However, by the time I got home, the post-yoga class euphoria had gathered itself around me like a cloud of incense. I felt stretched out and relaxed, and my knee wasn't hurting. All embarrassment gone, I cleaned up, got into soft pyjamas, and had soup and bread as a late night meal. Everything felt safe and good. My back felt terrific, and having the long-lingering pain removed by the constant stretching for an hour and a half is a consolation that cannot be equaled. Who cares if I stink at yoga and have to go slow? My back is better! I can shave my legs; I can pick stuff up off the floor; I can clean the bathtub, and I can tie my shoes quite easily now.

For the last week or so, the morning after class has found me drained, with twinges in the right knee and upper leg, and a general malaise. This morning I was a little drowsy but overall refreshed and happy. I suppose I have been pushing myself too hard. Moderation, moderation, moderation. It will take some adjusting on my part, but I will look at this new mindset as just one other aspect of learning yoga.

Bill McCuddy's Interview with William Hurt
I just watched two snippets of Bill McCuddy's interview with William Hurt, which originally aired (live) yesterday (Saturday July 31). What came to mind almost instantlly was the old Cheech and Chong skit about why pot should be legalized. If you're old like I am and recall that bit from the 70's, you recall that the humor came from the guy being so stoned he couldn't make his point. McCuddy's questions were the usual simple fare that sympathetic newscasters feed to celebrities to help them look like they can think. But Hurt's answers, barely sensible, covered everything from "smashcuts" to columns of light to fly-eyes. Man, this is like something out of Cheech and Chong I thought. Fox aired bits of it again this morning strictly for entertainment purposes. So if you tune in to FOX NEWS, you may catch it.
