Tragedy Strikes
Well, I had a job interview yesterday for a great company, and it went very well. They started with 100 candidates and have narrowed it down to four or five of us. They still have two more interviews to go. I hope I get it.

But after I sat in one place for two and a half hours, I slipped back into my car, drove home, and promptly threw my back into spasms. Fortunately, the chiropractor was IN, so I drove up to his office. He set the bones right, but the inflammation is very bad, and I was just about immobile yesterday. He told me to "meander" around the apartment, try not to sit for too long, put ice on it, and let it heal.

He was hoping that by today it would be right as rain, but after a restless night last night, I am only a bit more flexible, though I managed some grocery shopping. (Actually a grocery store is a great place for meandering! All those aisles and things to look at!) The stock boy carried any heavy items.

This setback in my spinal health is not as severe as the $4000 dollar setback I had early in the summer. But it's more severe than I was expecting, and it is a bit daunting that I was doing everything right and still had such severe inflammation occur. Of course, as is typical with me, it happened during the early phase of my period (when most women with chronic back trouble have flare ups), and it occurred after a prolonged period of sitting.

After the grocery store, I deposited all my bags into the trunk of my car. Then I meandered over to our local book store, bought a couple books from the terrific Moffat series by Eleanor Estes, and will settle into my reclining massage chair in a moment.

I still have nagging pain down the middle of my back on the right side (fifth lumbar), and I cannot move in certain ways without sudden, sharp pains stopping me. I cannot do anything that requires stooping down. So I ran the vacuum cleaner (plugging it in at a wall socket that is waist high) but after I was finished, I could not stoop down to wrap the cord properly. Rather than risk trying to do so any further, I just coiled it up and threw it into the closet on top of the vacuum cleaner after I stowed it. The greatest problem of bad inflammation from throwing out my back is that there is a danger of doing it again and making everything worse. That's what really worries me. So I move with great care and try not to take any risks.

If I get the job for which I interviewed, well then it was all worth it. If not, then....D'oh! (slaps forehead)
